CRAA Swim Groups

Red/Black
The Red/Black swim group is the introduction to competitive swimming. The purpose of this group is to teach young swimmers the basic
fundamental competitive swimming skills necessary to move efficiently through the water.  Swimmers are instructed through skill progressions in
basic balance, breathing, sculling, and rhythm, with great emphasis on fun and enjoyment in the water.

CRAA Red is appropriate for swimmers ages 5 and older who can swim Freestyle with side breathing and swim on their back.

CRAA Black is for those swimmers with more advanced skills and greater swimming endurance than those in CRAA Red.  Ages generally
range from 7 – 14 years of age.  Practice utilizes more set development and overall conditioning while continuing to increase and improve
swimming skills.

Junior I and Junior II
The Junior I group is for swimmers who have an understanding of the skills and drills of the Red and Black groups, have a greater commitment
to practice and competition, as well as a higher level of practice strength and stamina.  Workouts have increased challenges and more
structure.  Junior I consists of a Winter (6 month) and Summer (4 month) season.

The Junior II group is for swimmers who have developed greater speed, endurance and fitness level, thus being ready for more intense
workouts along with increased levels of competition.  These swimmers are in transition from competing at the 50 and 100 distances to the 100
and 200 distances of each stroke.  Training for and competing in the distance freestyle events is also introduced at this level.

CRAA
Cedar Rapids Aquatic Association is a non-profit organization established in 1982.  It offers year-round competitive swimming for boys and
girls of all ages.

CRAA prides itself in providing a multiplicity of programs where each individual can learn fundamental swimming skills and develop those skills
to their highest desired potential.  Novice swimmers of all ages can join CRAA and receive the instruction and coaching that each individual
requires to improve, while those more experienced can be assured of the opportunity to develop to their full potential
